Artist Statement
I am a fine artist based in Alexandria VA | Annapolis MD
My watercolor and mixed-media artwork emulate places I love, objects of my affection, and the atmospheres of my spirit. The materials and textures resemble the subtleties and complexities of a subject or the natural world. My goal is to add a nuance of abstraction and evoke a reminiscent or sentimental response to what you are viewing.
My current work links the mountains, the sea, and everything in between with soul and spirit. I incorporate environmental sustainability by using reclaimed nautical sails, marine fabrics, textiles, and vintage materials. Repurposing gives them a new life, purpose, and story, forming a deeper connection and respect for our environment. Enjoy watching the shadows, edges, and colors of the mixed-media pieces adapt, change, and transform with the time of day and season of the year.
Each creation is assembled and layered with subtle flaws, rips, tears, and blemishes, combined with touches of refinement, reminding us to embrace and love our imperfections.
My art is a collective of the ever-changing texture, depth, and beauty of our lives, symbolizing our human experience – a beautiful fusion of story, soul, and texture.
