• Determined!

I am determined to create a compelling artistic narrative by reclaiming, repurposing, and reimagining nautical sails and marine cloths.

What began as a simple idea is expanding into possibilities I could have never imagined.

Not only does the artistic process completely immerse me, but these materials also offer a symbolic way to explore our shared human experiences.

I’m allowing my curiosity to pull me toward something not fully known. I’m not doing this art (and life) thing halfheartedly.

Do you have a desire, a dream, a hope for the future that you’re immersed in? Please share! Let’s have a conversation.

  • The Space Between

How do you interpret “the space between”…? I’m focusing on the energy between less and more.

There is deep richness in the territory of tension and stillness. Questioning how to be at peace and desiring more takes balance.  Allow yourself to be drawn into sacred spaces. There is beauty, growth, and possibility in not knowing what is next.

Journeying through "the space between" eventually leads to the untapped spark. Trust that in time wider vistas are available to you.  JJH

  • What's next...

An art mentor said to me — you don’t need to do better art. You need to allow yourself to become the artist you are called to be.

  • I am farther along than I thought...

Last week I had an at-home “artist residency”.

I had no room for distraction. I was strict about not engaging in chores (art- and home-related) and put limits on my family and social commitments. The goal was to plan and work solely on the art.

Discovering a physical, multi-dimensional approach to art-making has been life-changing for me as an artist. I am moving away from a purely visual approach to art into a sensory approach. I want to activate your senses when you experience the art.

The biggest takeaway from last week was cementing the desire to stay on this path. I am devoted to using my art to reflect life — all its possibilities and all of its challenges.

Let’s delve deeper into what that means as the future unfolds.

    Peace. JJH
