You know who they are. These friends (and family) that pop-up in your lives at the perfect moment! I can’t quite put my finger on it but there is a knowing...a gentle nudging to reach out and connect when these “spiritual running buddies” come along. Life is like running a marathon. You need to start slowly. Maybe run the 5k, then the 10K but there’s something special that happens to you when you cross the halfway point. You’ve built confidence in the fact that you can do it, maybe you can do anything you put your heart and mind to!
You can handle the training and the soreness, but the mental toughness, that’s a different approach. Some days it feels like you can’t get out on the road or find your path. You'll convince yourself that you can skip today and try again tomorrow. But these wonderful people come out and support you when you least expect it. They embrace your laughter and your tears. They listen to you. They remind you of your goals, your dreams, your talents…they “hint at” why you are running in the first place.
Who are these angels in our midst? I can name at least a dozen (or more) FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, KIND, HELPFUL, ENCOURAGING, TOUGH and definitely FUN people that have been by my side throughout my life. Coaching, teaching, supporting, joking and loving me while I’ve made mistakes and wrong turns, and all the while on the pursuit of new and old aspirations.
Maybe you are thinking of someone or the many people that helped you for a short or long spell of your life. Were they with you when you found that lucky penny or saw that special sunrise or sunset? It’s the unexpected God winks that connect us -- and this poem is how much I appreciate you!
